Forget The Only Way Is Essex lot, forget the page 3 models and don't even consider Kerry Katona. As I have discussed in my blog this week, the definition of a "celebrity" truly has changed. No longer do you need to have a talent to be all over the newspapers or to gain an income. Madonna, however is one of those inspirational women in her mid-fifties that has earned her celebrity status and has no signs of slowing down. She's a risk taker, she looks good, she can sing, she can act and she can converse in a well refined manner with a back catalogue of a career that with anyone else is unheard of and unknown.
Later this year she shall be releasing her twelfth studio album and has at least another 3 more albums to come in the next 5 years. Yes, she may not be everybody's cup of tea and she never releases a music video these days without resorting to removing more than 1 item of clothing, yet it's acceptable purely due to the fact it's Madonna!
Her music career is as strong if not stronger than ever and has gone a long way since her good old classics of "Frozen" and "Like a Virgin" she now fits into the 21st century charts perfectly with her music now having a more club based sound and thus having a young generation of hardcore fans. She seemingly can't do wrong.
Celebrity status doesn't seem to have gone to her head, she isn't shy about mentioning any of her personal mistakes and her honesty is something to only be commended.
She is mid-way through launching and promoting a film which she has admitted to funding mostly with her own cash and albeit having a mixed response she isn't about to enter a rehabilitation centre any time soon due to not coping... why? Because she is a true celebrity and she can handle life, that in this celebrity climate is something to be admired in itself.
Another unusual thing about her is that she can even crack a joke, referring to the fact a lot of money has gone into her new film and announcing she is preparing to go on tour again with her music she is quoted as saying:
'I just have to pay the rent,'. 'A girl has to make a living but, truthfully, I do enjoy it. Touring is the most rewarding of all my jobs.'
Okay, she may not literally be struggling to pay the bills or indeed live in a two up, two down and probably has no idea what "struggling to pay the bills" is actually like, however that's okay because she is respectable and likeable... a true celebrity, a true definition and a true star!
