It isn’t abnormal to see people going to town on outside decorations for their homes during the festive season, in-fact this year it seems more popular than ever to have ostentatious displays across your bricks and mortar! I like to drive past a house every year that goes to town on lights, yet for charitable purposes... so surely we can encourage a few tacky blow-up Santa's if for good causes.
That being said, it isn’t the norm for a house to be painted an entirely different colour every year to get festive, however that is the case for Robert Wilcott’s home in Plymouth.
The father of two’s unusual festive spruce up has become so popular that many are travelling hundreds of miles just to see the extravagant lengths he has gone to.
The self-employed painter and decorator each year shows his open armed invitation to Santa by painting his home in a blushing festive red. He also adds white at the top and bottom of the wall along with some much needed snowmen!
Mr Wilcott’s daughters Lucy and Katie have helped in previous years along with erecting the many fairy lights and therefore creating something unique which certainly stands out from a distance! Speaking to the Daily Mail Mr Wilcott says that his now annual tradition started seven years ago when his daughter Lucy was born.
he added:
'I do it for everyone and I love it.
'All the kids and old people really enjoy it.
'I have people from Bristol coming down to see it and I get loads of cards all the time from people.'
Assisting in the transformation is Mr Wilcott’s nephew David Jeffery who went onto say:
"It’s amazing the amount of people that stop as they’re driving past.
'Rob is a big kid himself. He says he does it for the kids but I think it’s just as much for himself!'
The house shall go back to its original colour of white from January 6th.
What a lot of effort! Would anybody other than a painter and decorator go to such a faff?! A little bit OTT maybe, however certainly stands out.Tacky? Just maybe, but I am yet to find something which is worse than a blow-up Santa which I always feel tempted to pop with a drawing pin! I really could not be bothered repainting my walls year after year though! Good on Mr Wilcott for bringing some festive cheer to the neighbourhood in Plymouth!
