Matt Howarth

Is it Christmas yet? I ask the question not as an impatient, unmannered and overly hyperactive 18 year-old but due to the simple reason that all the preparation during this run up to the big day is simply becoming tiresome and unbearably long waited. The writing of cards, the buying of presents, the food shopping and of course the wrapping leaves you feeling physically and emotionally drained! Shall it be worth all the effort? That of course we are all yet to find out. I have surprised myself this year in constructing a list. A list of things to do, things I want, things I need to buy and things yet to be done. Never have I been so organised in the lead up to the 24 hour festivity! Lists really do work! Visually it can be seen in-front of you how well you are doing in terms of progression or in some cases of course how much you are dramatically lagging behind.

I urge you all to check as to whether or not you have the up most of all Christmas essentials in your cupboards... Crackers? Christmas Pudding? Christmas Cake? A vast amount of mince pies? Salted nuts? Biscuits for cheese? My mother is seemingly doing alright this year as she has all mentioned, not without a few impromptu reminders from me of course. After all that in mind, what about the turkey? My Turkey who goes under the apparent name of “George” is currently running around in its field, simply unaware of its near future unfortunate prospects. George is a rather big fella and I’m sure he shall need more than a prod and a poke to fit in our oven! To think just a matter of years ago I was a vegetarian, brings utter shame and embarrassment upon myself I’m sure.

As the list seems to expand and increase by the day, the 25th becomes ever nearer. If you have taken advantage of online shopping like me this year, I’m sure you can understand my irritation when I mention the seeming liability with that of the likes of Royal Mail and other couriers. If they state and promise that something shall be delivered on a certain date that is what I expect. Not to be lumbered with more problems of expected parcels simply not showing up. Christmas preparation is hard enough without you having to chase up tedious parcel companies who are at of the best of times, useless. I wish you well for your final week or so to complete your check list... let us see where we all are together this time next week!
