Abba to take to the mic once more!

You possibly thought it would never happen in reality after some members of the overly successful Abba have stated in the past that a reform would be totally off the cards... yet recent comments spark rumours that the original days of Dancing Queen and Waterloo could be firmly returning to the music scene! Benny Andersson has said that the band may well reunite after learning that some old docks in Stockholm are to be demolished. It was only January of this year when Andersson shot down rumours of a possible reunion on the Jonathan Ross show, however many fans hopes could be a reality as Agnetha Fältskog said she would back a reunion “for a special cause”. “If I knew with 100 per cent certainty it would help I’d call the others and ask if we could do a gig,” says Benny. “But we would need a day’s rehearsing.”

Do we need another band reforming? What is it these days about groups from yesteryear seeing it necessary to come and restart their original passion in the music business. Of course the obvious answer would be to release a “Greatest Hits” or an “Ultimate Collection” and despite Abba already having done so int he past it hasn’t stopped other bands from doing the same tricks. Boy band Blue have done it, Steps have done it, Culture Club are doing and The Spice Girls did it, but somewhat unsuccessfully. Never has the music business been so cluttered with yesterday’s chart toppers who are back in the ball game to make a quick buck. Abba may indeed be iconic, but let us leave it that way! MUST we see the lyrics of Mama Mia and Money Money Money being dragged up again from the past? Their songs have been covered umpteen times by different artists since their dismissal and albeit this possibility may make you smile, surely this new trend has to end sooner or later?
