This week has seen one of the worst vehicle accidents ever to have been known. Never has there been such devastation, destruction & debris on one of the UK’S motorways. The M5 was turned into something of a horror movie over the weekend gone by and the heart wrenching scenes were emotional and shocking. People are now searching for answers, what happened on that faithful night of November 4th? Distracted by fireworks? A driver taking their eyes off the road? Or even a Lorry causing the mass multi car pile up? Whatever the answer it is far too late to point fingers and whisper a few ifs and buts. Lives have been lost in a way which is unimaginable. Lives have been changed and generally things shall never be the same again. Such a travesty which I’m sure shall remain in all our hearts for some time to come, though of course our thoughts & prayers maybe with the affected families, though never will any of us be able to say that that we “understand.” A travesty never to be forgotten.
It never fails to amaze me how much care the community has here in Atherton. Not that we live in each other’s pockets of course, however, the general care and genuine interest of each other’s lives, health and well-being is touching to say the least. My Grandad has been rather ill over the last week with a heart condition and I was contacted by the lovely Joanne Kelly from the Corner House cafe in our town. My Grandad is a regular there most days of the week and in-fact I’m sure they would agree that he is the “face” of the cafe floor! indulging in some form of hot meal and having idol chit-chat about the price hikes by British Gas! Due to him being too ill to go out for his lunch and them not seeing him for more than a few days, she contacted me asking whether or not he was okay. How thoughtful, caring and refreshing to know that there is some genuinely lovely people in this world. It really touched me with realisation that our town must be one of the most friendliest & closest! Luckily, my Grandad is getting back to full health...thanks to Jo for her contact and concern.
