A faff? part of your twice a year routine? what is your opinions on moving the clock forwards and backwards to dip in and out of Greenwich Mean Time? I am seemingly the only one that loves these short nights of darkness. Nothing I like more than to close the curtains, sit in a room of darkness and just sit back and watch dusk set in... the streetlights turn on and watching people slowly but surely dig out their winter coats from behind the wardrobe! Surely it gives you that “mulled wine” kind of feeling? & nothing beats the blizzards and the gales as winter sets into the darkness! with the risk of turning my description into the likes of a Catherine Cookson novel, how annoyed I am with MP Rebecca Harris who is leading a campaign to get the clocks put forward an hour so we would be in the timezone as Europe... the proposal is being “thought about” by the government.
The apparent benefits would see longer lit evenings but darker mornings. Campaigners believe the proposals shall reduce energy use, cut road deaths & boost tourism!
David Cameron will only agree if the entire UK do so, however if the plans did go ahead then the North & Scotland could be affected with darkness until mid-mornings.
He said: “You can only do this if there was real national consensus and pressure between all the nations of our United Kingdom.”
Supporting MP Rebecca Davies is “convinced there are enough good arguments” in favour of changing it.
If the proposal did become a reality the government would practise the scheme for 3 years to see if any obvious benefits were apparent.
I don’t want to wave goodbye to GMT, quite frankly I’m sick of seeing suit wearers dominating every little thing that niggles them. You cannot make such a decision when words such as “May” come into it... something MAY change if this was to happen, yet then again it MAY not. We haven’t all got a psychic ability which enables us to accurately see into the future if things were to possibly happen. I don’t think I can see the entire UK agreeing to it, what’s better to symbolise the transitions from season to season than moving clocks backwards and forwards and basically playing with time? Maybe MP Rebecca Davies should just get up earlier at the start of what are I’m sure busy days for her... then of course plenty of caffeine as she will need to be alert in the mornings so not to risk causing a collision. She simply just mustn’t be a morning person!
