I am struggling to write this without just the slightest peak of the green eyed monster coming into play. A pensioner was overwhelmed to discover that a dusty old vase which she inherited was a 250 year-old Chinese “moonflask”
which was worth half a million!
The anonymous woman, 88, said her father Edward Whittington-Ince, bought the ornament while Commander-in-Chief of the East Indies from 1925 to 1927.
She said:
“It’s a frightening amount. I love looking at it, but I am glad I don’t have it in the house anymore.”
Salisbury auctioneers Woolley and Wallis will sell it on November 16.
How terribly annoying! some people have all the luck! of course I am extremely happy for the pensioner... yet ever so slightly bitter! To rebel and on principle I feel I must raid my mum’s cupboards which are full of ornaments and crystal ware to see if there is any hidden gems amongst them and the dust! You never know what you may find and in the case of my house I never know half of the things we have! maybe a possible excuse for a clear out? I’m sure my mum would go to the effort if she thought there was a limited edition piece of ornamental history amongst the nic nacs!
