I am absolutely disgusted with the way Basildon Council have pussy footed around in evacuating the travellers at Dale Farm. This has been Britain’s largest illegal camp site and unsurprisingly after getting away with law breaking for the past 10 years, now that there time is up... Violence broke out along with the use for Tasers and brick throwing. Supporters of the illegal travellers created barricades as the police were attempting to gain access which then led to angry confrontations. Female residents ran to their “homes” in tears as some supporters set alite a caravan in the farm.
One resident Kathleen McCarthy, speaking to the Daily Express said:
“We are staying until we are forced from our land because we have nowhere else to go. Everyone we know is here on Dale Farm, all our families and friends. Who else is there to turn to?
"Why did Basildon Council turn down the offer of land for alternative sites for people of Dale Farm? They are tearing apart our community, leaving us to bring up our kids on the roadside.
The memory of Dale Farm will weigh heavily on Britain for generations- we are being dragged out of the only homes we have in this world. Our entire community is being ripped apart by Basildon Council and the politicians in government"
An Essex Police spokeswoman said: "The first officers on the site were attacked with missiles being thrown, including rocks and liquids. These officers were fully equipped to deal with this situation."
One of the supporters for the travellers Natalie Fox said, “The traveller community is being criminalised- it has been made illegal for them to travel, but they are not being allowed to settle. If traveller families are not allowed to make their home on a former scrapyard, then where will they be allowed to live?"
Dale farm residents finally lost their battle last week after a long lasting court battle and after 10 long years Basildon council have finally proved successful in evacuating the travellers.
Am I missing something? these people have broken the law and have done so and gotten away with it for the last 10 years for god’s sake! the word “Travellers” tells me that they travel around. So I imagine that only applies when it is okay for them does it? when it suits them they are happy to travel around... as that is of course what that culture of people do. Yet in this situation because they have gotten away with it for the past 10 years they are now claiming it is their “home” and are now putting up a fight... what a bunch of morons! The way Basildon Council have handled this whole scenario is completely laughable. Why on earth it has taken so long I have no idea. They don’t own the land, they are not entitled to live there and quite frankly the police should have been brought in 10 years ago! The bunch of supporters are proving to be violent and nasty pieces of work and never have we witnessed such mockery. These people are being given media coverage and are being interviewed on numerous news platforms... why on earth are we giving them so much time? do we do this with all criminals these days?
Millions upon Millions spent on forcibly removing a bunch of law breaking travellers who don’t travel! Seems to me that all this really does nothing for the reputation that those communities already have! They cannot play the card that they want their children’s in schools as in most cases they don’t even bother, ridiculous! shame on Basildon Council, The Courts and David Cameron for allowing this pure mockery to last for as long as it did... I welcome you all to the United Kingdom, were seemingly all able to break the law at our own free will, WITHOUT comeback, the rioting of this year is another prime example. Who regrets voting for the Conservatives now?
