Workers at a council which has been told that it needs to save £100 Million over the next four years are visiting Facebook 20,000 a day.
In over 3 months the council viewed 1.9million pages. Other sites the workers have been viewing include dating website Sugar Daddie which had 6,700 hits & the Argos website which had been visited 70,000 times.
In a separate revelation, freedom of information figures show that Islington council have visited the Cricketing website cricinfo 120,000 times.
Deputy Leader Councillor Richard said:
“I am confident our staff spend their time productively.
“It’s not unreasonable for staff to increasingly use social media as a communications channel, just as our residents do.”
The council announced it may be forced to claw back the cash by slashing services for young people and the elderly.
Absolutely mind blowing! Is it any wonder at all that this country is going down the proverbial? It just seems recently that these people who we are supposed to TRUST and represent and speak for the community and those within similar circles are pretty much time wasting and quite frankly doing bugger all!
Without categorising all councils and those within them, it wouldn’t surprise me if it is a wide spread issue. I completely understand that social media is an important tool for more than just us all updating our status every so often, yet to be spending so much time on it... I cannot think exactly what it is they would be doing other than building, growing and looking after a virtual farm on one of those tedious Facebook games!
I think it would be rather insightful if we all got to be a fly on the wall in all these offices which are in some way significantly important. Councillors, MP’S and those alike don’t seem to realise that they are just not on the public level at all... I’m sure you shall all agree that we trust none of them! Things like these revelations hardly help. The same can be said for MP’S expenses. Why should we bother to worry though? What can we do about it? Should we even bother to raise an eyelid? If these “important” people cannot be bothered then neither can I! Let us allow this country to go to rack and ruin, would be interesting to see exactly who would pick up the pieces?
