A group of schoolgirls have claimed that they have discovered as to what exactly makes the perfect boiled egg!
The young egg heads from Sherborne Girls School in Dorset have said that Delia Smith was indeed right when she claimed that the perfect boiled egg takes exactly 6 minutes. The group of 12 took part in an experiment which was commissioned by the Royal Society of Chemistry and led by Professor Hal Sosabowski, principal lecturer in Chemistry at Brighton University.
Not only did they master the art of exactly how long it takes to boil an egg to perfection, but also the different variables which make up the yolk perfect concoction, some of these are:
- *Margarine makes a stronger dunking soldier than butter
- *White bread makes more effective soldiers
- *Optimum toasting time is 2.5 minutes
- *The perfect soldier dimension is 1.5cm in width
- *The perfect boiled egg takes six minutes
The research was conducted in the school’s new science centre.
I honestly think that this is valuable research we should all take on board! there is nothing worse than building up your excitement and anticipation, as your egg is presented in front of you in its own little cup, with buttered sliced toast soldiers on a side plate... just building up to the moment were you crack the top of the egg with a spoon, with anticipation wondering whether or not you have done your egg to dipping perfection or slightly disappointing if not. There was a man on Dragon’s Den just a couple of weeks ago who is trying to event a machine which boils an egg to perfection, just by inserting it into a slot. He spent thousands upon thousands and has only recently managed to perfect it. What a fantastic invention that would be if it went on the mass market! There is a strong sense of appreciation if you are one of those that manage to perfect an egg at every go and even though it could probably be classified as “lazy food” there is simply nothing else quite like dipping a soldier into the perfect boiled egg! I am now craving for that food sensation... yet I have no eggs! I hope I am getting across my pure disappointment to you all and that you will at least have an egg on me!
