I am completely astonished with the audacity that HMP Parc inmates have. The prisoners are demanding that they are given access to Sky Sports 2 & 3 as presently they are able to only just watch Sky Sports 1 which as a result is just the one channel they have access to, in order for them to watch Premier League football matches. Inmates have handed in a FORMAL complaint at the HP Parc category B prison in Bridgend, South Wales.
One Warden told the Daily express:
“They can spend all day watching Sky Sports 1 but they’re hacked off because they don’t have Sky Sports 2 and 3.
“They’ve even been moaning it is a breach of their human rights. Some have even talked about taking it to the courts. To hear them moan and whinge about how hard life is drives me mad.
“I’ve stayed in hotels that don’t have the facilities the prisoners get here.”
Sky Television currently charge community buildings and the likes of the prisons £100 per month for the Sky Sports 1 package and in order to gain the full set it would be an additional £78 per month.
MP David Davis responded to this by saying:
“I am aghast that we are paying for prisoners to watch Sky. It beggars belief that they are complaining about this. I haven’t even got Sky Sports myself.
“People should not be put in prison to spend their days watching expensive satellite packages. They should be educated and learn skills for their rehabilitation when they come out.”
Matthew Elliott, of the Taxpayers’ Alliance said: “It’s ludicrous they have Sky in the first place.” A spokeswoman for the privately-run 1,200-capacity jail said: “We offer Sky Sports 1 as a privilege to be earned.”
I didn’t think I would ever find myself agreeing with a Member of Parliament but this has left me completely and utterly speechless. The bunch of law breaking and shameless members of society who are staying in her Majesty’s pleasure are not in the surroundings of HMP Parc for a simple holiday, but should ideally be reflecting on what crime they have committed and be on some sort of programme to eventually be turned into law abiding citizens and downright pleasant people to be around. Of course that isn’t the reality as it seems these days people have no remorse for whatever it is they have done nor does a Leopard change his spots, but the sheer cheek of demanding Sky Sports has left me with my jaw literally hitting the floor. Why on earth have they been given access to it in the first place? Stating that is it s “Privilege to be earned” simply doesn’t cover it. MP David Davis and I DO NOT have access to the channels and we... I have every confidence that I can speak for MR Davis... are law abiding citizens, who would never contemplate committing any type of crime whether it be petty or otherwise. Prison in my opinion should be quite simply a bed, a toilet and at a push a TV with the basic 5 terrestrial channels anything else is a simple distraction from the reasoning of why they are in the prison surroundings.
I cannot abide the good for nothing, moaning little individuals that continuously bring up Human Rights and what people should be entitled to. The reality is if these people commit a crime and are caught they should not be entitled to anything. Prison is already used as a holiday for most due to no bills coming through the letter box plus the likes of the food they eat doesn’t need to be paid for by those who are eating it. Quite simply on first glance I would consider it a holiday camp, certainly not a place to reflect and understand.
Now that this revelation of inmates having access to Sky Sports has been brought to the attention of the public domain I am at the very least expecting that their access to Sky Sport’s 1 is ceased with immediate effect. Unless I am missing something Prison is surely more than a lad’s night crowded around a flat screen monitor, cheering at a group of overpaid sportsmen kicking a ball. I would have also imagined that watching competitive sports causes friction, anger and general rowdiness within the prison environment? something of which I Can imagine prison staff could do without at the best of times.Unless prison has changed so that when the likes of murderer’s are convicted they get taken to jail which is now some form of luxurious apartment with all Mod Cons, I expect the formal complaint by inmates at HMP parc to be simply laughed at, utterly delusional if they think anybody would meet this request. Sport can be very good for team building and indeed as some form of outside activity for inmates to participate in... but in terms of being able to watch it from their comfort of their cell with I can now due to this only presume beer on tap... then these law breaking individuals really must understand that their committed crime has taken alot more from them, then simply their freedom!
