A recent ASDA survey has shown that us Brits have now gone back to the likes of Pork Joints, Roast Beef and Roast Chicken in the shape of a traditional English roast dinner as our favorite dish. Curries have now taken a slump as the statistics show that they have declined quite alot in popularity. Sales of Carrots, Broccoli and Potatoes have seen a significant rise here in the UK showing that more of us are eating the traditional dish more so on a weekly basis. Pork Joints have seen the hugest increase in numbers with up to 245 percent in some areas of the country. Lamb Joint sales increased 33 percent and Chicken 57%.
Curries have been Britons favourite dish for years, however has recently seen a significant decline and therefore has slipped to our now third favorite dish. More than 37 percent of people who took part in the survey names a traditional roast as their favorite dish.
As much as I enjoy the likes of a succulent piece of Roast Beef or finely cooked Chicken, I have to say that for my taste buds, a Curry ever so slightly gives me more of a tongue tantalising sensation! I am one of those people that tries anything, I haven’t yet had the joy of trying to indulge in the traditional French delicacy of Frog’s legs, I of course can hear all your disapproving murmuring however... if you haven’t tried something how do you know what it tastes like? Frog’s legs may be the equivalent to that of a chocolate moose for all I know! I along with my own mother seem to be at a stage where the likes of Indian’s spicy offerings are taking a priority for our evening meals. My mum isn’t one to try anything new, without being forced of course... yet she seemed to be surprised to just how much she enjoyed every fork full of Chicken Jalfrezi! I shall take the opportunity to wade myself through a plate full of Chicken Bhuna or a Lamb Rogan Josh at the earliest convenience at the best of times. A roast dinner on the other hand... in some cases can be slightly underwhelming.
Staring upon a plate full of sad looking meat, crispy potatoes and soggy vegetables isn’t the most appetising of sites, whereas the sensational smell of a curry and looking upon a plate full of spices along with your house also sharing the scent is something which your Kitchen craves for.
I only enjoy a traditional Sunday roast if cooked to perfection, anything else leaves me disappointed and unfulfilled. On the other hand as Winter approaches there is nothing better than the good old British Winter concoctions. This week I have been luckily enough to indulge in a lamb stew and a sausage casserole! the latter especially symbolises Winter to me and there isn’t any other dish from any other region which does it better. Followed by a nice bowl of Jam Roly Poly and custard... what more could you want?
