Chris Evans gives up the demon drink after night out with our prince!

Chris EvansRadio 2 DJ and controversial personality Chris Evans has declared he is to give up the demon drink after experiencing a rowdy, booze filled champagne lunch with none other than Prince Harry!

The multi millionaire and television presenter said that he felt:

“Not hungover, or particularly messy, no more inept than usual. But I just felt plain weird. I don’t want to feel like that ever again.”

I cannot say I can understand or sympathise with the situation and feelings Chris expressed after his evening of “downing” spirit after spirit of I’m sure the finest alcohol available on the market. I am unashamedly teetotal, never felt better and I have no intention whatsoever to suddenly find the urge of popping into my local public house for a vodka or a pint. I am certainly in the minority when it comes to my age group and when I was at high school on a Friday Night rather than going out boozing on street corners, I much preferred going to the theatre and watching a Shakespeare related, intelligent production or drama rather than find myself head over the lavatory lid. I have simply never understood the mindset of the individuals that seem to get a buzz or a thrill in having a night out clubbing to get drunk beyond belief, making an utter idiot of yourself then spend the duration of the following day in a state were death is a preferable option. Where’s the fun in that? is that Britain’s definition of “Fun”? well it certainly isn’t mine, maybe that’s why I always considered myself to be the odd one out when I used to be in certain surroundings with once friends... the sheer idea of me not being interested in tasting or sipping an alcoholic beverage seemed ludicrous to them and that I didn’t seem to have my mental faculties intact. I for one am not afraid to say that I haven’t “downed” a can of Fosters, not “supped” a bottle of cheap vodka nor have I “indulged” in a bottle of fine tasting wine. I’m quite happy sticking to the bottles of Bitter Lemon and Bitter Orange thanks very much.

All be it I am not labelling all alcohol drinkers, alcholics as of course the majority of people have heard of the word “moderation” but whether or not somebody has one glass every year or one every week, I cannot understand the social stigma surrounding it. I can quite happily get a buzz from half a pint of Pepsi than I’m sure I could any other concoption. If I went out into a social get together at some form of club and was asked the dreaded question by somebody:

“What do you want to drink Matt?”

of which I would simply reply either Lemonade or Orange Juice, I’m sure I would be looked upon to be the “party pooper” or the person who has no fun. Probably causing negativity and an awkward ambiance with everyone knowing that I am slurping my way through a Lemonade with a straw whilst the rest are downing their pints. Therefore I should imagine not being asked out the next time there was a social meeting of friends.

Alcohol IS addictive, though I’m afraid I shan’t ever understand why... because I don’t ever intend any to pass through my lips. We all have our cravings and addictions, mine at the minute being Cadbury’s Bournville Dark Chocolate, rather that than an illegal substance!

So again, if I do happen to find myself in the midst of flashing disco lights and fellow teenagers I shall continue to refuse any form of alcoholic beverage and depend on the likes of Pepsi and Soda to get me through the evening, I would like to remember my night’s and days throughout and I certainly have better things to do than kneel over a toilet!

Good luck to you Chris, prove real men don’t need alcohol to live a happy, jolly life!
