Twinings Earl Grey compared to Cleaning Product!

Twinings Original Earl Grey BlendThere’s honestly nothing better than either mid-afternoon or in the evening, either after a hard day of mixing with society or simply because you cannot resist or even to solve another of life’s little problems... to just sit back, feet up and have a large good old Northern Brew in either your favourite mug or the more traditional High quality china cup with a saucer so not to dribble down your attire.

Twinings are one of the most recognised classic brands when it comes to the business of tea and although it never seems to have an amazing advertising campaign behind it unlike that of its competitor Teltley Tea & the Tetley Tea Folk. Twinings just seems to ooze class with its name and reputation of it being the finest cup of tea!

Tea now seems to come in many different varieties and spices. My personal favourite being Peppermint, then ranging off into further obscure flavours such as Orange with a hint of Ginseng.
Earl Grey however is a flavour of tea which maybe is a little acquired but to see somebody gulping a cup of Earl Grey shows sophistication and wealth (apparently.) Twinings was the first of the ever growing Tea brands to release the Earl Grey flavour to the public and apparently the blend launched in 1831 and was named after the Prime Minister of the day Charles Grey.

Twinings now however have apparently changed the mix of their high calibre tea with a customer comparing the new flavour to that of “Lemon Cleaning Product.”
Another customer said: “‘I cannot describe how awful this new tea tastes. The old award-winning tea was in a completely different league to this foul-tasting dishwater.’

The new blend of Earl Grey apparently contains bergamot (whatever that is) and citrus.
The Twinings website describes the newly mixed concoction as “refreshed”

Many are complaining on their official Facebook page calling for them to reinstate the original flavour but Twinings seems adamant in keeping it by stating that they did plenty of “research” before changing the recipe.
New Look Tea from Twinings!Of course any changes made to anything which has been round for years and remained the same is always going to get some sort of backlash and I suppose people’s taste buds shall just have to alter accordingly or simply buy a different brand for goodness sake! Of course though if it isn’t broken then don’t fix it as the old saying goes and I think an award-winning tea made by a well-established company should remain the same as that is after all what it won awards for!

I’m quite happy to stick to the average normal tea bag if I care to indulge in a brew thanks very much... though if you do feel like upping your demographic class once in a while then why don’t you give one of the many fruit teas a try? Their website shows you can buy Strawberry and Mango flavour! Didn’t realise they had gone into the fruit juice market... surely a different ball game altogether?
