Wednesday 14th October saw children from 11 primary schools take part in the 3rd ATSA KS2 Swimming Gala at the Pelican Centre in Tyldesley.
Over 80 children from St. George's Central, Sacred Heart, St. Philip's, Garrett Hall, Chowbent, St. Richard's, Tyldesley Primary, St. Ambrose Barlow, Parklee, Holy Family and St. Stephen's all took part in a variety of individual and team swimming races.
Over 150 supporters cheered on the children as they took part in the gala. Over the course of the afternoon 4 different ATSA swimming gala record times were beaten! In terms of the scores, things were very close going into the final races with several schools still in with a chance of taking the title. However, once all the scores were added up it was the team from St Philip's who were crowned gala champions, with second place going to Holy Family and Garrett Hall taking third place.
I would like to thank Miss N Stothard (Pelican Centre) and her staff for not only helping to organise this event and by providing expert support during the afternoon, but also for sponsoring this event - without their help the gala would not have been the success that it was.
A special mention should also be given to all the spectators who gave up their afternoon to come along and support this event - they managed to create a superb atmosphere which helped to motivate the children to do their best for their team.
The picture shows the winning St Philip's team with their trophy and medals.
