Over the past four weeks, over 140 children from five schools have been taking part in Crown Green Bowling 'taster' sessions at Tyldesley Subscription Club. Children from St. George's Central, Sacred Heart, Tyldesley Primary, St. Stephen's and Chowbent all took part the sessions which were led by members of the club.
I would like to thank Mr Patrick Hayes and all the members of the club for working with all the children and for hosting this event on behalf of ATSA. Following the session, ATSA has secured a further taster session for next year and a competition for schools!
Peter Marland, Committee Member, said:
'At Tyldesley Subscription Club we pride ourselves on the work we do for the local community. We aim to be as inclusive and accessible as we possibly can. Having local children participating and enjoying the game of bowls with experienced bowlers hopefully opened up a new window of sporting opportunity for the young people. The club members that volunteered their time found it a very worthwhile experience and are keen to support the local schools again in the future.'
ATSA recently celebrated its 100th event since 2011 and to mark the occasion, a short film was made showing many of the events over the years. ATSA has grown over the last four years so that it now works with 2 universities, 3 secondary schools, has links with 23 community club links, caters for 24 primary schools in 31 different sports, working with hundreds of volunteers, providing opportunities for thousands of children!
