This evening saw over 90 children from eleven primary schools across Atherton and Tyldesley take part in an ATSA Tag Rugby festival at Atherton Community School.
St. George's Central, Sacred Heart, Hindsford, St. Richard's, Tyldesley Primary, St. Michael's, Holy Family, St. Ambrose Barlow, Parklee, St. Stephen's and Atherton St. George's all brought teams to take part in the event which was supported by Leigh Centurions Community Foundation.
The schools were divided into two groups with the top two teams from each group meeting in the semi finals. St. George's Central and Parklee qualified from group one with St. Richard's and Hindsford making the semis from group two.
After two great games, it was St. George's Central and St. Richard's who came through to make it to the final. An exciting final match was the played between the rivals from Tyldesley and Atherton with the children from St. George's Central narrowly winning the match to become the ATSA Tag Rugby champions.
I would like to thank ACS for allowing us to use their facilities to host this event. Thanks also to everyone involved with Leigh Centurions Community Foundation, especially Stuart Littler, who was present to over see the matches and present the awards at the end. Thanks to the apprentices from the Foundation who refereed the matches and acted as time keepers. A mention also to the many supporters who came to event to help create a fantastic atmosphere.
The picture shows Stuart Littler with the winning St George's Central Tag Rugby team with their medals and trophy.
