This evening saw 12 primary schools from Atherton and Tyldesley take part in a Girls' Football festival at Fred Longworth High School.
St. George's Central, Sacred Heart, Hindsford, St. Richard's, St. Philip's, Holy Family, Garrett Hall, St. Stephen's, Meadowbank, St. Michael's, Chowbent and St. Ambrose Barlow all brought teams of girls to take part in the event which was organised for ATSA by Mr McMahon (Garrett Hall).
The schools were divided into two groups with the top team from each group meeting in the final. In group two, St. Richard's progressed to the final, topping the group after winning all four of their matches. After all the points were collated in group one, it was undefeated St. Ambrose Barlow who topped the group.
The final match lasted just two minutes as 'unseasonal' weather meant that the match had to be abandoned with the scores at 1-1. For the first time in over 80 ATSA events, the trophy was shared between the two schools!
I would like to thank FLHS for allowing us to use their facilities to host this event. Thanks also to the two students from the school who refereed the matches. A mention also to the many supporters who came to event to help create a fantastic atmosphere.
The picture shows the two schools sharing the trophy.
