Wednesday 21st January saw children from Atherton primary schools take part in the first ever ATSA KS1 and KS2 Atherton Sportshall Athletics Festivals at Atherton Community School.
The KS1 event comprised of 36 children from Meadowbank, St. Philip's and Chowbent taking part in a variety of running, jumping, throwing and relay events.
The KS2 festival saw 36 children from St. Philip's, Parklee and Chowbent take part in the same events, however there was more of a competitive element for this age group as the title of Atherton KS2 Sportshall Athletics Champions was up for grabs.
In KS2, each child in the school team had to take part in one running race, one jumping event, one throwing event and one relay event, so it was very much a team effort as all the scores were totalled.
The scores were very close going into the final events, which were the relay races and it was the team from St. Philip's who were crowned champions.
I would like to thank Mr M Bold and all the staff at ACS for hosting the event. Thanks should also go to Abbey from Atherton Community School and all the staff from SGC who came to support this event. Without all this help, both competitions would not have been the success that they were.
The picture shows a Parklee pupil taking part in the foam javelin event.
