Wednesday 26th November saw children from 8 primary schools take part in the first ever ATSA KS2 Dance Festival at 180 Dance Club in Tyldesley.
Over 60 children from St. George's Central, Sacred Heart, St. Philip's, St. Stephen's, Chowbent, St. Richard's, St. Ambrose Barlow and Hindsford all arrived in a variety of costumes ready to dance to their chosen theme.
Over 100 supporters were present to cheer on the children as they first took part in a warm up dance organised by Mrs Donna Wyatt from 180 Dance. Next, each school then performed their dance to their chosen theme, using their own props and costumes, keen to impress the 3 judges (Joanne and Rachel from 180 Dance and Mrs Bennett from Hindsford CE School.)
Once all the scores were added up, the top 3 schools qualified for the final and performed again. St. George's Central, St. Philip's and St. Stephen's danced in a battle for the top spot. After the scores from this second dance were collated, it was the team from St. George's Central who were crowned KS2 Dance champions, with second place going to St. Stephen's and St. Philip's taking third place.
I would like to thank Mrs Donna Wyatt (180 Dance) and Miss E Jackson (180 Dance) and all the staff at the club for not only hosting the event, but for helping to organise and judge it. Thanks should also go to the 3 judges (Joanne and Rachel from 180 Dance and Mrs A Bennett from Hindsford CE School) who helped with the officiating of the dances. Without all this help the competition would not have been the success that it was.
A special mention should also be given to all the spectators who gave up their afternoon to come along and support this competition - they managed to create a superb atmosphere which helped to motivate the children to do their best for their team.
The picture shows the winning St. George's Central team with their trophy and medals.
