Woman dies in town centre collision - Wigan

A number of roads have been closed in Wigan town centre following a fatal road traffic collision. 

At about 9.50am today, Thursday 15 July 2010, a woman in her 70s was on Standishgate when she was in collision with a council Ford Transit van. 

She suffered severe head injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene. 

No-one else was injured, but the van driver was taken to hospital as a precaution. 

Standishgate, Menzies Avenue, Crompton Street and Riverway have all been closed to traffic while emergency services deal with the scene.
