Three men have been arrested after a serious assault in Tyldesley.
A 48-year-old man had been out with his son, 23-years-old, in the area. They were last drinking in Bar M on Lime Street, into the early hours of Sunday 8 January 2012.
Detectives understand that the victim's son had been assaulted and then, at about 1.30am the victim himself had been chased by a group of four or five men along Elliott Street and then Wareing Street.
By the time the victim reached Upper George Street it is believed he was being chased by two men.
He was then seriously assaulted. He has been taken to hospital where he remains sedated and in a critical condition.
The man's son suffered facial injuries.
A 19-year-old man and 18-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault and remain in police custody.
An 18-year-old man has been bailed pending further inquiries.
