Family pay tribute to woman killed in collision in Leigh this morning

A woman who died in a road traffic collision in Leigh this morning has been named.

Shortly after 7.45am today, Wednesday 21 December 2011, police were called to Atherleigh Way (A579) following a collision between a LGV and a woman on a scooter.

Charlotte Louise Fox, aged 23 and from the local area, suffered multiple injuries and died at the scene.

Charlotte's mother has paid tribute to her daughter. She said: "Charlotte was a much loved daughter, grandaughter, sister and auntie. She had recently started work as an assistant manager for Superdrug having recently graduated from the Superdrug management scheme, of which she was very proud.

"Charlotte enjoyed karate and was a black belt 2nd Dan. She also instructed juniors at her club. She enjoyed roller skating with her father and motorcycling."

A 52-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He is currently being interviewed by collision investigators.

Senior Investigating Officer, Sergeant Lee Westhead said: "My team are now working hard to establish the cause of this tragic collision and the investigation is ongoing.

"Our thoughts are with Charlotte's family at this very sad time, who are being supported by specially trained officers. I would now appeal to anyone who saw the collision or has any information to come forward and speak to my officers."
