The X Factor is one of the UK’S biggest commercially produced television shows of all time, not to everybody’s taste and especially in the latest series the question rather uncomfortably has been asked as to whether or not there actually IS any desirable talent in the competition who has the longevity to sell records. Looking back to 2008’s series and without a doubt it could easily be branded the most successful in terms of talent. Alexandra Burke won it, JLS came as a runner up and even Blackburn’s Diana Vickers who came fourth has now become a fashion icon of a well known online department store. Despite all those well-known names, all of us here in Atherton and indeed the rest of Greater Manchester only had their concentration on one talented individual... that being Atherton girl Laura White! Giving it her all, with a hint of her unique style Jazz vocals and a little bit of an edge, her rendition of Alicia Key’s “Fallin” had mass praise and certainly the performance of her time on the show which got everybody talking about the girl from up north! Despite having mass praise, widespread support and many a compliment winning the X Factor for our local singing-sensation was just not to be. Week 5 saw Laura in the bottom 2 and thus voted off from the singing content, as a result causing public outrage! MP Andrew Burnham branded her exit “very harsh” in the houses of parliament, a petition with 50,000 signatures was signed, a possible voting line problem arose and numerous celebrities took to social networking sites to document their anger and disapproval.
It wasn’t the most fairytale of dreams for Laura, yet we all knew that she had that special something, something of which would lead her reaching her dreams in future years. Around a year after the X Factor in late 2009, after giving her fans a chance to vote for their favourite clip on her website it emerged that a song entitled “You Should have known” was to be released as Miss White’s first single in November 2009. Despite being signed on an independent label, Laura secured herself appearances and performances on the likes of The Alan Titchmarsh show & Loose Women. The promotion and hard work wasn’t for nothing as “You should have known” charted at an impressive number 32.
Since then we may have all been wondering, questioning and remaining confused to the whereabouts of Miss White, yet fear not as in late 2011 she confirmed that her long-awaited studio album is set to be released in 2012. With a solid fan base it seems Laura has worked hard no end and despite not being at the front of the music scene she can keep her head up high with achievements such as touring with Peter Andre. Laura was set to release a second single called “Radio” in 2010, however, was cancelled, thus causing slight upset with fans.
Thinking this would be the end would be entirely the wrong mindset! Her debut album has been confirmed to be released next year under the name of “Lyrics in my underwear” and Laura’s fans are set to hear an EXCLUSIVE album preview as soon as January next year!
For one night only, Laura shall be appearing at the Lowry Theatre, Salford Quays on Saturday 28th January 2012 at 8pm.

I interviewed Laura back in July 2009 and she came across as nothing other than elegant and charming. A local who the young can simply look up to with pride and simply so level headed that fame hadn’t even gone to her head! Not even after spending much of her recent time in LA, Laura likes nothing better than to come back to her home town of Atherton (who needs sun and scenery anyway?)
I send Laura my most heartfelt best wishes for her future and I truly hope she get the success that she undoubtedly and quite rightly deserves!
