Men charged with attempted murder and man charged with cemetery robbery

A man has been charged in connection with the robbery of a cemetery worker in Atherton.

The same man, along with another, has been charged in connection with an incident where a man was stabbed in the neck in Wigan.

Jamie Evans (born 18/02/1981) of Bolton Road, Atherton, has been charged with charged with attempted murder, witness intimidation and robbery.

Jack Gregory (born 21/08/1991) of Chaucer Grove, Atherton, has been charged with attempted murder and witness intimidation.

Both men were remanded in custody and were due to appear at Wigan Magistrates' Court on Friday 7 October 2011.

The attempted murder and witness intimidation charges relate to an incident on Devonshire Road at 1.55am on Tuesday 4 October 2011 where a man was stabbed in the neck. The victim remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Evans' robbery charge relates to an incident on at 8.15pm on Friday 30 September 2011, where a 73-year-old cemetery worker was robbed as he locked up the cemetery on Leigh Road, Atherton. His phone, cash and car key were taken and he needed emergency surgery for injuries suffered in the attack.
