Cash box stolen - Tyldesley

Two men have stolen a cash box from a security van in Tyldesley.

At around 7.40am on Friday 13 May 2011, two security staff were filling the cash machine at Morrisons, Shuttle Street when they were approached by a man.

He ran towards them holding what is thought to have been a knife. They dropped a casing with a cashbox inside and locked themselves inside the security van.

The man was joined by another offender who hit the casing with a sledge-hammer, enabling them to take the cash box inside.

They put the money in a bag and walked off towards the rear of the supermarket.

One man is described as being around 5ft 8in tall, wearing a camouflaged style coat, dark tracksuit bottoms and white trainers. It is thought he was holding a knife.

The second man is described as being 5ft 8in tall, wearing blue anorak, dark pants and a black balaclava. He was carrying a sledge-hammer.

Detective Inspector Amber Waywell from Wigan CID said: "The offenders had one thing on their mind and it was obvious they knew what they were doing. I would urge anyone who may have been getting ready to start their shopping or filling their car with petrol who may have seen something to contact us."
