Police uncover large cannabis farm - Wigan

Cannabis Farm LeighPolice have uncovered a massive cannabis farm at a three-storey house in Wigan.

On Monday 13 September 2010, officers from Pemberton executed a searchwarrant at a house on Orrell Road.

Around 1,000 cannabis plants in various stages of production were recovered. They have a street value of around £500,000.

Two vehicles, a white Peugeot van and a Volkswagon Passat were also recovered.

PC Martin Dickinson, based at Pemberton, said: "The house was under going renovation and had been converted into a large cannabis farm.

"They used almost every room of the three-storey building to grow these plants. This was a significant and complex effort to mass produce cannabisusing a large amount of new irrigation and air exchange equipment.

"I would appeal to members of the community with any knowledge about those involved to get in touch with me and speak in confidence."

Pemberton Community Beat Sergeant Peter Clarke said: "Being able to close down this facility is a significant result for the Wigan and Pemberton area.

"We have prevented drugs worth up to half a million pounds from getting onto our streets. Drug dealing causes misery amongst our communities and it is an unfortunate fact that this causes addicts to commit serious crimes. I would like to thank the local community for their diligence."
