Burglary at charity shop - Leigh

British Red Cross LogoBurglars broke into a charity shop in Leigh just after busy Bank Holiday trading.

The break-in took place at the British Red Cross shop on Union Street sometime between 5pm on Saturday 28 August 2010 and 10am on Monday 30 August.

The offenders broke in through a window and searched the shop for cash. The money they stole included a collection, some of which was dedicated to those affected by the recent floods in Pakistan.

Police Community Support Officer Anthony Coyne said: "We have not heard from any potential witnesses of this incident so at this stage it is unclear when this burglary took place.

"We would urge anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity to contact us.

"The offenders took their time when inside and rummaged around the shop for money that was for charity. I am sure that the people who have made donations to the shop will be keen for the offenders to be caught."

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 7225 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
