Men who claimed to be plain clothes police officers stole a large amount of Euros from a house in Leigh.
Around 8.30pm on Monday 2 August 2010, two men knocked on the door of a house on The Avenue, Leigh.
When the door was answered one of the men stated they were from 'Manchester Police CID', but did not show any ID.
They were allowed into the house and one of the men took everyone in the house into the living room, while the second man went upstairs.
A few moments later the man went back into the room with the victim's black holdall filled with Euros and jewellery.
The men then left the house stating 'the police will contact you'.
One man was described as white, 5ft 10ins tall, of medium build with very short dark blond to light brown hair and he was clean shaven.
The second man was described as Asian, 5ft 6ins to 5ft 7ins tall, of stocky build with very short hair and he was clean shaven.
Both men wore white shirts with sleeves that reached their elbows and black trousers.
Police Constable Kat Allen of Wigan Volume Crime Team said: "Not only have the offenders tricked their way into the victims' home by pretending to be from the police, but they have also stolen a large amount of money and jewellery.
"Please call the police if anyone knows about someone trying to exchange large quantities of Euros or if you have information about who is responsible.
"I also want to remind people to always request identification from callers to your house. The police will always show an ID badge and any official caller will have no problem in people checking with their company who they are."
Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 7203 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
