Lilford District Scouts
Lilford District Scouts Headquarters serves as a meeting place to aid and promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential in accordance with the Policy, Organisation and Rules.
What does your charity/project do?
It provides an education and training facility for young people from the age of 6 to 25 covering all the sections namely Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Network Scouts. These members involve themselves in a wide range of activities many of which earn them badges at various stages as well as District and County (Greater Manchester West) competitions. The District consists of 496 young people supported by 117 adult volunteers in a leadership structure within each of the sections.
How does your charity/project support the local community?
Scout Groups cover local areas of Astley, Atherton, Boothstown, Leigh, Lowton, Mosley Common and Tyldesley. District HQ acts as a centre for activities, training days, competitions and Leader meetings covering all Groups. Used weekly by Girl Guiding of Tyldesley and by a local dancing troupe for their practice sessions ahead of competitions. The Local Authority's Leisure and Culture Trust run weekly Active Living sessions re aspects of Health and Fitness for the full adult age range.
What do you plan to use the CommunityForce award for?
Acquired unused Methodist Church late 1960s; interior converted for use as a District HQ; two areas in need of refurbishment. Toilets - Upgrade male and female areas to provide facilities for disabled; afford better access at entrance doors; ensure that internal layout supports disabled needs. Kitchen - Replace cooker, fridge, freezer, cupboard units, worktops, shelving; re-site electrical points and lighting; renew tiling. Both – Replace Windows / decorate.
