The Turnpike Gallery has a new exhibition starting the 9th October. Surviving the Peace’s powerful images, captured by Sean Sutton, illustrate the lifesaving work worldwide of Manchester charity MAG (Mines Advisory Group) over the past 20 years. The photographs show the struggles and triumphs faced by survivors of conflict, and how, with MAG’s help, they begin battling a new set of challenges in the aftermath of violence.

MAG is a global humanitarian organisation working to reduce armed violence and the devastating effects remnants of conflict have on communities struggling to recover after war. MAG is co-laureate of the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize, awarded for its work with the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL), which culminated in the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty – the global ban on anti-personnel landmines, sometimes referred to as the Ottawa Convention. Set in 14 countries worldwide, this new exhibition presents images which document the conflicts that have scarred our recent history and the impact they have had on the lives of many men, women and children around the world. |
