The Clone Roses - Fever Nightclub, Atherton

Clone Roses at Fever AthertonThere are a lot of tribute bands gracing the music scene these days.  The greater the band, the greater the number of tribute acts, and usually the lower the quality.  After hearing a lot about The Clone Roses, I went along to Fever with high expectations.  Once again, a family meal meant that I made it to the venue quite late, but just in time to hear the last few tracks from the support act, The Kings. For a band who really haven't been together too long, these lads really know how to warm up a gig.  Fresh from playing with the likes of Pete Doherty, Neville Staples and Chris Helme (The Seahorses), they were on top note, and it surprised me to see a lot of the audience singing along to the rousing last few songs.  They finished and left me wishing I could have got to Fever sooner and appreciated the full set.

The place was packed out, and I went to join the myriads of people trying to get the drinks in before the headline act.  Whilst stood waiting, I pulled out my camera to get a couple of shots and to get the right settings.  Horror ensued as the instant I turned it on, it went dead. I'd purchased some on the way home from work, A six pack of a well known brand of alkaline camera batteries.  I then spent the next few mins replacing them with the others only to have the same thing happen.  I quickly left the venue to go and hunt some down, and returned about 15 mins later, fearing I'd missed the start.  Alas, I still had time to rejoin the queue at the bar, and got my drink just in time for The Clone Roses to take the stage and burst into the first song.

Bucket Bangers - Old Isaacs, Feb 09

Well, yet another Friday night off, so I decided to scuttle on down to Isaacs to catch the Bucket Bangers. Making my usual 'late' entrance, I arrived after they'd been playing for around 20 mins. The first thing to hit me was the fact the band had been moved to the center 'stage' area. Finally, people can see the band and the band the people. But my joy soon succumbed to the realisation that the chairs and tables were still in front. People were all stood on the stairs at the back struggling to get a view of the band, along with the crowd in the bar area whilst 3 large tables with a whole 7 people on them took up the entire front floor! Arrgh!

Chaos Theory - Old Isaacs, 24th Jan 09

Sometimes you see a band and instantly know there is something special about them, and Chaos Theory definitely fall into that category. If I had to think of 2 words to describe them, those words would be "Infectious enthusiasm". Old Isaacs was packed to the rafters in anticipation, and anywhere booking these lads can expect an increased footfall with the growing numbers of fans, young and old, coming to see them. The image they project is strangely, yet satisfyingly different. A mismatch of Indie, Goth, Rock images, but with the music falling into all categories with ease. They formed in 2006 so have now been together for 3 years, which seems amazing when you see how young they are. But don't let those looks fool you, they play with the form and confidence of a well established band, and with their 'infectious enthusiasm' they work the crowd into a frenzy.

Blooze The Plot - Old Isaacs, 10th Jan 09

It was a bitterly cold night so all credit to the ones who did brave the weather to turn up to see these play. Blooze The Plot are a 4 piece band from Westhoughton, and play with a set list comprising of Neil Young, Jimi Hendrix, Cream and many more. I missed the 1st set due to family commitments, but walked in and sat down with a drink as the 2nd set started. The singer then announced that the 2nd set would be more of a rock set after the blues heavy 1st. They proceeded to break into The Cult's She Sells Santuary, which immediately got a few fans at the front up dancing. Right away, it was easy to tell that they were a very tight outfit who enjoy what they do, and put it across well. A lot more professional than most pub bands, they rolled their way through the 2nd set with the ease and confidence of a well established unit, although the drummer did 'mistime' a couple of intros.
